Underpass at Aramgarh To Be Made Available For Public Soon

A major initiative aimed at providing a smooth ride to the International Airport at Shamshabad has been to ensure that traffic landing from the proposed expressway does not get stuck at Aramgarh junction. Part of the P.V. Expressway project — the underpass — at this junction is almost complete, though the 11.4-km expressway is months away from being a reality.
The underpass planned along the inner ring road covers structure that is 62 metres long, spreads to 19.4 metres in width and 5.5 metres in height. On either sides that is towards Mehdipatnam and Chandrayangutta, it has approach ramps that are 100 metres long.
Though the underpass taken up at Rs.6.50-crore budget was almost ready a month back, final touches were stalled due to the work in progress on construction of three large spans measuring around 45 metres ahead of it. With this task attended to, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) describes the underpass as almost complete and that finishing touches are being provided for making it fully functional in a week’s time.
The facility was a real task for those involved as it entailed cutting through lot of hard granite at the site. “It turned out to be a major challenge given the rocks and we had to work through almost 30 feet below the road surface with the granite,” says Vivek Deshmukh, HMDA Chief Engineer.
Also, the fact that the work was taken up right on the national highway added to the hardships.
Set to be ready in a few days from the HMDA side, the underpass is likely to be made available for the traffic in coming weeks.
According to the officials, a date for formal inauguration and access for commuters will be worked out soon.
