Wakf Land Unlikely For Electronics City

The Andhra Pradesh State Wakf Board is having second thoughts on giving land to the proposed Electronics City at Alur in Ranga Reddy district.
The land, allocated for the Electronics City, was also shown to Tata officials for the Nano project apart from Sitarampuram a couple of weeks ago. The Wakf Board officials have reportedly walked out from a state-level negotiation meeting organised by the special chief secretary and the chief commissioner of land administration on October 18. The officials reportedly said at the meeting that they would think again on whether to give land or not and even agree on the compensation that was being offered to them. Sources said they had second thoughts on giving prime land to the Electronics City at the meagre amount.
“The Wakf Board informed officials that the issue of giving land would be discussed at a meeting of religious leaders, Muslim MPs, MLAs and MLCs and scholars. The board wants to hold a meeting as there is criticism that it is selling away its prime land at throwaway prices,’’ Wakf Board chief executive officer Shaik Madar Sahib told ‘TOI’.
The revenue authorities are worried that award passed for the land would expire on November 7 and, if the Wakf Board does not agree or accept the amount, the land acquisition process has to begin afresh which might take four to five months.
The state government offered Rs 2 lakh per acre, which works out to about Rs 20 crore, to the Wakf Board and Rs 3 lakh per acre to private land owners. The Wakf Board was also offered 75 per cent share in the developed land. But the Board officials were reportedly unhappy with the amount being offered to them as it was less compared to the market value.
Electronics City is being proposed in an extent of 1,132 acres at Alur village in Ranga Reddy district which is about 60 km from the city. Of the land, 1,036 acres of land belongs to the Board, and seven acres to private persons. There are 786 encroachments on the Wakf land. The Ranga Reddy district revenue authorities issued a draft declaration and draft notification for the land a few months ago and passed the award for the amount fixed at the district-level negotiation committee.
The land would be handed over to theAPIIC for development. The compensation and expenditure was calculated by APIIC. While the compensation would be to the tune of Rs 31 crore, expenditure for development has been pegged at Rs 100 crore. The revenue officials said they would hold another meeting with the Board officials next month to sort out the problems.
