In order to decongest Road No. 36, Jubilee Hills, a parallel road will soon be developed to connect Madhapur. The Road No. 45, Jubilee Hills, will be extended up to Madhapur at a cost of Rs 5.1 crore under the aegis of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

Motorists from the Old City, Mehdipatnam and Film Nagar can avoid Road No. 36 and travel on Road No. 45 to reach Hi-Tec City and beyond. It would reduce travel time and the distance to Madhapur.

GHMC officials said motorists could reach Madhapur from Road No. 45 within 15 to 20 minutes and reduce half a kilometre distance when compared to their using road no. 36. GHMC has widened road no. 45 to 80 feet up to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan a year ago.

As Road No. 45 ends in a curvature near Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, GHMC officials plan to extend it through Ambedkar Open University campus and some lanes to connect Madhapur. With fear of accidents and road width, motorists do not prefer to use the road to reach Madhapur.

Now, a road development plan has been prepared to link the road to Madhapur junction near police station from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan site. A straight road with 80 ft width would be formed through open space of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, BR Ambedkar Open University and AP Dairy Development for a distance of half-a-kilometre.

“No property acquisition or demolition is required for laying the new road. Some institutions like Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan have already agreed to part with land,” GHMC additional commissioner (planning) K Dhananjaya Reddy told ‘TOI’ on Tuesday. He said tenders for laying the road would be called in a week and the project might be completed in four to six months.

Meanwhile, the corporation has also decided to develop Madhapur-Durgam Cheruvu road at a cost of Rs 3 crore. The traffic on the 80-ft road has increased in the past two years. Though the road width is 80 ft, the road formation with bituminous layer is just 40 ft. The GHMC authorities have decided to recarpet the entire carriageway with central lighting, dividers and footpaths.
