It could be termed a bridge too far. Completion of the road over bridge (RoB) between Kukatpally Housing Board (KPHB) colony and Hi-Tec City railway station is far behind schedule. The Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (Huda) is not sure when the project will be completed because of slow response in clearing the project by the SC Railway (SCR).

The project as of now has ended up in complications because of new stipulations laid down by the SCR. Out of the 101 piers of the project, 30 fall under the railway jurisdiction. The SCR has cleared the general arrangement drawing (GAD) with a required height of seven metres from the railway track when the project was started. But railway authorities have objected to it when the final project report was sent to the railways. The SCR has asked Huda to maintain a height of 8.3 metres after the project has started.

“The railway authorities want Huda to raise the height of the ROB as it should not obstruct double stack containers. Because of this, the design of the flyover has to be changed since many of the already constructed piers height have to be raised,” said a senior Huda official.

The project was originally slated to be completed by August this year. Huda has sent the GAD once again with the revised plan to the railways. The railways have to give a consent to this followed by a clearance of the final project report to be submitted by Huda later. “The project will be completed seven months from the date of clearance of the plan by railway authorities,” the Huda official said.
