The ambitious ‘Digital Media City’ proposed to be developed by the State government as a hub of animation, gaming and digital entertainment companies at Sultanpur, near BHEL, is all set to take off.
Business plan
The business plan for the 100-acre city has been sent to Hyderabad Urban Development Authority for final vetting.
Once HUDA which has to formally allot the land, ratifies the project report during the week, decks will be cleared for issue of the Government Order to float a Special Purpose Vehicle, officials of Information Technology and Communication Department told The Hindu.
Firms short listed
Meanwhile, IT officials said out of 48 animation and gaming companies of national and international repute which sent their Expression of Interest, 26 companies were short listed to become the stake holders in the SPV. Once the G.O. is issued paving way for SPV creation, the Rs. 300 crore first phase would be ready in eight months.
Entry level
The billion dollar sunrise industry requires large number of skilled personnel with a minimum education qualification of Std. 10 standard at the entry level.
But given the mushrooming of animation institutes that provide short duration courses with no curriculum standardisation, SPV would tie-up with an internationally recognised animation school to set up such a training academy.
In the 20-acre first phase, land would be allotted for the training academy to provide standardised training with a curriculum suitable to Indian as well as international platforms and to create talent pool of skilled personnel for attracting animation houses from across the country to the Digital Media City gradually.
Incubation space
The short listed companies would be provided incubation space (ready to work facilities) to start their operations straightaway. Once they have bigger projects, the companies could move on to their own campuses allotted to them as and when they seek.
In the second phase, an ecosystem required for the animation and gaming industry, such as special studios, digital labs, auditorium to suit specialised requirements of the industry would be set up, officials said.
