AP Heads For Power Crisis

As all hopes of getting power from other states and the Centre have evaporated, the beleaguered state government on Saturday decided to run thermal power stations without giving them a break for maintenance.
About 850 MW capacity thermal units are scheduled for annual overhaul in the last week of June, which was postponed at a time when the state is facing power shortage.
The engineers fear that the decision would have serious consequences as the units get over heated and create fresh problems.
The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekar Reddy, had reviewed the power supply position with and directed them to postpone the overhaul of thermal units for another 20 days.
There’s no supporting coal supply in case the thermal stations are force to operate continuously. Singareni is already supplying more than what was linked for the state. For Vijayawada and Rayalaseema thermal stations, it is supplying more than what was initially allotted.
“We are producing more than what was targeted for the year. More than 42 million tonnes were dispatched this year against 40.5 MT.
It is already stretched to the limit” said Mr S. Narsing Rao, Chairman and Managing Director, Singareni Collieries.
Lack of rail wagons to transport coal from Mahanadi Coal fields is also hitting the regular supplies. Shortage of rail wagons has forced the MCL to reduce its dispatches, though there were sufficient stocks.
