The Hyderabad Urban Development Authority’s e-tender process to auction lands has evoked a dull response. It has got only one tender application, that too for 11.33 acres, for its proposed auction of 85 acres.

Builders and developers are staying away from the auctions being conducted by Huda and the Housing Board to express protest against GO Ms No 288 which directed them to reserve 20 per cent of the total plot area for economically weaker sections.

It was the protests by opposition parties including the Telugu Desam, the Telangana Rastra Samiti and the Left at its open auction venues that prompted Huda to go for e-tenders.
It had put up for auction large tracts of lands in surrounding municipalities including Rajendrenagar, Kondapur, Lakshmiguda, Keesara and Gopanapalli. But when officials opened the e-tenders after the 5 pm deadline on July 9, they found only one application for 11.33 acres in Laxmiguda of Rajendernagar circle.

Enquiries by this correspondent revealed that the builders were angry at the clause in the G.O and wanted to impress upon the government that it cannot take them for granted to raise money for its irrigation projects. The GO 288 was issued in April first week and created uproar among builders. All the auctions conducted by HUDA and Housing Board since then had evoked lacklustre response from the real estate sector.
