Hyderabad Airport Slaps User Development Fee On Passengers

It’s going to pinch your pocket a little more if you are planning to fly to Hyderabad. This time, it’s not the airlines, but the airport which is piling on the charges, reports CNBC-TV18.
Get ready to pay a surcharge of over 10% if you are flying from the Nizam’s city. According to sources, the GMR Hyderabad international airport is all set to slap a user development fee from July 1 on passengers. So if you are flying within Andhra Pradesh, you would have to pay an additional Rs 300 and it’s Rs 550 if you are flying from Hyderabad to another state. This comes as a blow to passengers who are already paying exorbitant fares to access the new international airport, which is located at the outskirts of Hyderabad.
Currently, the GMR Hyderabad international airport charges Rs 1000 as user fee for international passengers. Within three months of its operation, GMR had sent proposals to the civil-aviation ministry for the approval of local user fee. Sources say the ministry is expected to clear the file by June-end.
