The twin cities could soon see 25 new Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) coming up by the end of the year and 16 of them would have escalators, while the rest would be equipped with lifts on both sides.

Tenders finalised

“Tenders have been finalised and work orders issued for taking up the FOBs under the Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) and Public-Private Partnership mode for a period of 15 to 20 years,” said GHMC Additional Commissioner (Advertisements) G. Vani Mohan here on Wednesday. Talking to presspersons, she said that each FOB would cost about Rs. 2-3 crore and they are scheduled to be erected by December.

FOBs with escalators are likely to come up at Lakdikapul, General Post Office (Abids), Zikra High School (Raj Bhavan road), St. George’s Grammar School (Abids), S.D. Eye Hospital and so on.

The existing FOB at L.V. Prasad Eye Institute is also to be equipped with escalators while the one at Dilsukhnagar would get lifts. Suburbs are slated to get FOBs for the first time under the present lot.

The newly constructed FOBs at Khairatabad crossroads and Ameerpet are ready for inauguration, she said. Location of FOBs was chosen after a joint inspection with the Traffic Police and some of the earlier chosen sites were abandoned as they fell in the proposed metro rail routes, Ms. Mohan added.
