IT Exports From AP Up By 41pc

IT exports from AP are up by a record 41 per cent. In FY 08, the exports were Rs 26,122 crore as against Rs.18,582 crore in FY 07. AP’s contribution to the total IT exports in the country is about 15 per cent in FY 08.
Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, who reviewed the performance of the IT sector in the State, expressed satisfaction over the growth rate in spite of recession in the United States. The Chief Minister asked the IT department to start 2,300 Rajiv Citizen Centres (rural e-Seva centres) in the next three months.
He was unhappy that the process has not started though they have been sanctioned quite sometime ago and there was clearance from the Central Government.
The Chief Minister approved a proposal for Andhra Pradesh to have one integrated portal by linking all departments to it from July 1.
The portal - www.aponline.gov.in - will be a unique one with all the information relating to departments being provided there.
As regards the IT investments, the Chief Minister was informed that during the last four years, 675 companies have registered with AP Government and 51 IT MNCs/majors that had started operations have provided employment to 1.53 lakh youth. In FY 08 alone, 51,550 youths were provided employment.
Ten IT companies - Google, Patni, Cognizant, Sonata, DQ, Infinite, Tech Mahidnra, Intelli Group, Cbay - will start construction of offices in IT SEZ, Kokapet, by August 15. Huda has been asked to provide infrastructure like roads, temporary electricity and water connections.
An animation and gaming city will be constructed in 100 acres of Huda land at Sultanpur. An SPV - Hyderabad Digital Media City - is being incorporated with representatives of Government and those from animation/ gaming/visual effects.
As many as 41 animation and gaming companies have filed expression of interest to be part of the SPV. About 20 acres land had been earmarked for construction of buildings for providing office space, incubation centre, common amenities for animation and gaming companies and 20 acres for animation academy and 60 acres land for future growth.
