Property owners are all set to get more time for regularisation of unauthorised buildings as the deadline for submission of application under the Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS) and the Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) are likely to be extended by one more month.

Presently, the last date for both the schemes are May 31, but the byelection fever and large number of residents enjoying summer vacation has slowed down the process of submission of applications under BPS and LRS in the past one month.

Highly placed sources told this correspondent that though the state government had got permission for a two-month extension from the election commis sion, it had extended the scheme only by one month from April 30 to May 31. In case the government implements its decision this would be the third extension in a row.

This was done to avoid complacency creeping among property owners.

“Had the government announced two months extension in April, not many would have come forward to submit applications in May. The number of appli cations submitted this month is far below the expectations of the municipal administration officials,” sources said.

Adding to the slow down is the pending cases of BPS are the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The cases will come up for hearing only after 15 days, which gives scope for the government to extend the BPS scheme up to June 30.

A senior official in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) said large number of representations were being made by property owners to extend the scheme date.

However, GHMC officials have left it to the discretion of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development department. “We are neither requesting for extension nor opposing it,” an official said.
