AAI Still Frowns On High-rises Near Begumpet Airport

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has rejected the Secunderabad Cantonment Board’s plea to allow them to permit high-rise structures in the funnel area of the Begumpet airport.
SCB chief executive officer V Premchand had sent an official communique in March to the Begumpet airport director asking whether it would relax norms for high-rise buildings in the Secunderabad cantonment area in view of the operations being shifted to Shamshabad.
Responding to the plea, deputy general manager, (ATC) (NOC), Hyderabad Airport, P Hemamalini said in an official letter addressed to SCB chief executive officer V Premchand that “the Begumpet airport would continue to carry out aircraft operations other than commercial operations. The restriction imposed for height clearance of the structures and buildings being constructed within 20 km radius of the Begumpet Airport would continue in accordance with relevant provisions.”
