RGIA Handles Million Passengers In 50 Days

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has crossed the milestone of handling a million passengers in the first 50 days of its commercial operations since March 23, 2008.
There has been an increase in the air traffic movements (ATMs) and also the number of passengers by over 14 per cent as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year at the Begumpet airport, according to a release by GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL). The RGIA handled an average of 248 (220 domestic + 28 international) flights a day in the first 50 days of its operations as compared to 218 in the Begumpet airport in the corresponding period last year. The new airport handled 30 additional domestic ATMs (Air Traffic Movements) a day during the last 50 days.
Better payloads
Viswanath Attaluri, head, commercial, corporate planning and communications, GHIAL, said: “The airlines are able to get wide-bodied aircraft and getting better payloads, both in terms of passengers and cargo. The operations at the airport have stabilised in all the areas like safety, security and passenger service.”
