South Central Railway authorities have refused to accept Rs 42 crore that was offered by the GHMC for nearly 52,000 sq. metres of railway land required to widen road from Sangeet to Tarnaka.

As a result, road widening works have come to a halt on the stretch. The result is the road works maybe delayed by a couple of months.

Despite the intervention of the chief minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, both the government agencies are sticking to their stand — Railway officials want the current market value of land, which it says ranges between Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000 per sq. metre.

GHMC officials said the land value was fixed by district collector (DC) and they will not pay more. This stand-off has created trouble for the commuters as it is resulting in frequent jams on the narrow stretch of road.

The SCR spokesperson, Mr P. Krishnaiah, said the GHMC officials had agreed to pay the market value at a meeting. “The Rs 7,000 per. sq metre they are offering is far below the prevailing market value,” he said.

The GHMC additional commissioner (Planning), Mr K. Dhanunjaya Reddy said, “According to CM’s orders, DC conducted survey and fixed the market price. We had told them in the meeting that we will pay whatever value is fixed by the DC.”
