Andhra Pradesh tourism is all set to cash in on the lucrative Medical Tourism sector and lure inbound, as well as domestic tourists to the state. Though the state tourism board (Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, APTDC) is actively promoting Leisure Tourism and MICE segment, it is aiming at increasing the number of tourist receipts by promoting the state as a Medical Tourism destination.

APTDC is also gearing up for the upcoming PATA Travel Mart 2008, which will be held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) from September 16 to 19, 2008. “350 rooms in the five-star category have already been booked. We are looking forward to the convention as it is a very good opportunity for us to showcase various facets of our destination,” said G Rama Kotaiah, Assistant Director, Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation.

The Corporation is also planning a road show in Delhi and other cities in India to promote Medical and Religious tourism and talk about the upcoming PATA Travel Mart 2008. “The road show will be held in Delhi and most probably will also be staged in Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkatta. These will be held sometime before the PATA Travel Mart. We also want to create awareness about the backwaters and the resorts located there and adventure water sports in Andhra Pradesh,” maintained Kotaiah.

“We are looking at promoting Religious and Medical Tourism. There are various religious places like Tirupati Venkateswara Temple, Veerbhadra Temple, Ghanpur Temples etc. in the state. We are looking at conducting combined tours wherein a traveller has to step out and everything else will be taken care of in the tour package. We also want to enhance tourism in the state by encashing the potential of Medical Tourism sector,” added Kotaiah.
