Reliance Retail, the retailing arm of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries, unveiled its first Reliance ‘Digital’ store in the city and fifth in the country.

This 25,000 sq.ft. one-stop shop for all technology solutions in the field of electronics, home appliances, information technology and telecommunication products is the largest digital products speciality store in Andhra Pradesh. The store is located at Road No. 12, Banjara Hills.

CEO of Reliance digital Ajay Baijal said here on Saturday that four more similar stores would be opened in the city in the near future, while a few outlets were in the pipeline in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and a few other towns next year.

The store, the largest consumer durable outlet in Andhra Pradesh, is stocked with more than 6,000 products of over 150 brands along with countless solution bundles to meet the diverse customer needs

“We, at Reliance Digital, are delighted to bring the high-tech city of Hyderabad our first and largest digital superstore in Andhra Pradesh. This will usher in, on the auspicious occasion of Ugadi, the retailing of the most varied assortment of high-tech products and services in a world-class ambience in electronics, appliances, IT and telecom,” Reliance Digital CEO Ajay Baijal said.

The store had 75 skilled and trained staff to guide and counsel the customers. It would be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on all seven days of a week. The price tags were displayed along with all products. The in-house service centre, RelianceresQ’ would provide pre and post-sales services. The Reliance digital would offer a loyalty programme with the concept of ‘Earn anywhere and spend anywhere’.

Reliance Digital is planning to set up 150 speciality ‘Digital’ stores in 70 cities across the country. These stores will be set up over as period of three years. Reliance ‘Digital’ stores are typically 10,000 to 15,000 sq ft large and require investment of around Rs. seven crore apiece excluding property cost.

Although, over 90% of the Digital and durables market is fragmented and controlled by small family owned retailers, large, organised players like Croma (Tatas), Digital (Reliance), e-Zone (Future- Biyanis), and Next (Dhoots- Videocon) have begun emerging in tier I and II cities across the country. It is expected that about a quarter of market share will be garnered by these large retailers as large brand players have of late begun seeing the advantage of selling through organised chains. Even customers find it convenient to see and compare products of all the major brands available under one roof in these outlets.

In a related area, the group has also set up three i-Stores, which exclusively offer iconic digital products like i-Mac, i-Pod, i-phone and Mac Air, made specially for discerning, high-end customers by Apple Inc.

The Reliance Retail was working out on two other formats which were still at the drawing board-level, said vice-president Venugopal. Availability of right place at a right location was an issue, he observed. The cost of property or rental value was very high, he observed.
