The High Court has in principle agreed to constitute a special bench to settle long pending disputes on lands.
The court’s decision came in the wake of the state’s request to put an end to the long drawn tussle over 2,193 cases involving an extent of 1.31 lakh acres.
Official sources told this correspondent that the spe cial bench was likely to be constituted after the summer vacation.
“The Koneru Ranga Rao committee on land reforms made this important suggestion on speedy disposal of cases ranging from encroachment to errant declaration of title,” said a senior revenue department official.
Significantly, Ranga Reddy district tops the list of cases followed by Visakhapatnam. Of the 208 cases pending in the Supreme Court involving 8,948 acres, 139 cases are against 6,500 acres of land in Ranga Reddy.
“Majority of the cases pertain to the Urban Land Ceiling and inam lands,” the district officials pointed out. Sources said the revenue principal secretary, Mr Samuel, wrote to advocate-general C.V. Mohan Reddy to convey the need for a special bench and accordingly, the advocate general took up the issue.
There are 874 cases pending in the High Court relating to 35,932 acres.
The state also ordered all the district officials to obtain data on pending cases at the district level.
