The familiar sight of Ramakrishna Beach teeming with tourists is back again. So does the buzz at Kailasagiri and Araku Valley.
Well, who would miss out on the scenic hills, surfing sea, lush green valleys, picturesque landscapes and architectural marvels? Visakhapatnam is sure to give them a respite from the blistering heat and, of course, the daily grind. And a journey to the city itself would be a discovery of the ‘treasure- trove of Nature’. In brief,Vizag is the perfect getaway vacation for many south Indians.
At last, the tourism department has a reason to smile. It has the cash registers ringing again this summer holidays (April to June). According to its officials, most of the tourists are from Hyderabad and parts of south India.
The Andra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) has registered about 1.07 lakh visitors at Borra Caves during April-June quarter in 2007, an 18.5 percent rise from the corresponding quarter figure of 90,759 in 2006.
APTDC divisional manager P Jeevan Prasad told NewIndPress that arrangements were being made to make the tourists ‘feel at home’. ‘‘To meet the demand and keeping their tastes in mind, we have recently constructed plush and ethereally beautiful cottages at Mayuri Hill Resort in Araku Valley and Anantagiri Hills,’’ he said.
The officials expect at least 20 percent rise in the number of tourists visiting the district this season. Though there are no new packages to offer, the tourism officials promise that a trip to Vizag would prove to be an unforgettable experience.
