Decks have been cleared for widening of the choked Patny-Bolaram road with the Secunderabad Cantonment Board deciding to hand over the land required for widening the Rajiv Rahadari. The project involves widening and developing the 200-km state highway up to 200 feet from Secunderabad (Patny) to Ramagundam in Karimnagar district.

The land will be given on lease for a bare minimum price and the Defence Estate Office (DEO) of the SCB will continue to be its owner. The Rs 600-crore project to widen the Rajiv Rahadari could not take off earlier as the DEO was demanding market value or land at other places on value basis. The roads and buildings department required 93 acres in cantonment limits from Patny in Secunderabad to Bolaram.

The DEO also decided to part with land at DRDO and DRDL, required by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for widening of Inner Ring Road (IRR). The SCB defence estate officer, Mr S. Balakrishna said they had written to the Union defence ministry offering to give the land on lease. Sources said the defence ministry has no objections to proposal. Mr Balakrishna said they were awaiting official confirmation.
