Nearly 50 per cent of the APSRTC fleet in the twin cities will switch over to CNG fuel in the next three months.
APSRTC managing director & vice-chairman V Dinesh Reddy announced this while congratulating RTC employees who got the award from HPCL for fuel efficiency at a function organised here.
Stating that 35 per cent of the gross earnings was being spent on fuel alone, Dinesh Reddy said that the corporation would save Rs 108 crore if the current efficiency of 5.23 kilometres per litre KMPL was improved to 5.6 KMPL.
Nearly 2,675 city buses are plying in the twin cities and 50 per cent of them would switch over to CNG in the next three months.
He also revealed that airconditioned buses would be operated in the city to woo people away from private buses. Ironically, the corporation’s footsoldiers-drivers and mechanics-were presented the awards at APSRTC Kala Bhavan in Baghlingampally, while officers were given away prizes at a star hotel in Somajiguda.
