Hyderabad-Vijayawada road to be six-lane

Loading ...The Hyderabad-Vijayawada road will be developed into a six-lane express highway, according to Minister for Roads & Buildings T. Jeevan Reddy.
At present, a project has been taken up to make it only a four-lane facility but sufficient extent of land is being acquired to upgrade it into a six-lane highway, he said.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the Minister said tenders would be called in two months for execution of the project. Similarly, tenders would be called next month to convert into a four-lane highway the 220-km Rajiv Rahadari connecting Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Mancherial and Chennur. This project would be taken up through private-public partnership.
Earlier, at a meeting, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy sanctioned Rs. 200 crore to resurface and renovate all roads in the State before June, especially those damaged during the heavy rains. Another Rs. 310 crore would be utilised for the purpose, this sum being the unspent portion of the R & B department’s Rs. 1,961-crore budget.
Mr. Jeevan Reddy said the State did not claim any reimbursement from the Central Road Fund scheme for the past few years though it was eligible to get Rs. 30-40 crore annually. As such, it was now eligible to get an accumulated sum of Rs. 300 crore and this would be used on various State highways. Over 10,000 km length of State highways had been taken up for four-laning. The Minister said all pending bills due to small contractors, who executed various road works, would be cleared immediately.
International airport
He said the road between Aramghar and Shamshabad would be widened to provide better connectivity to the international airport if the HUDA released Rs. 36 crore as agreed upon.
