VUDA to launch drive under BPS, LRS

The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) will launch an intensive drive for implementing the building penalisation scheme (BPS) and layout regulation scheme (LRS) pursuant to the State Government issuing GO Ms No 901 and 902.
VUDA Chief Planner K. Anand Babu on Monday held a meeting with district panchayat officers of Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam, municipal commissioners of Bhimili, Anakapalle and Vizianagaram and village secretaries of panchayats that fall under its purview.
He told reporters plots in an estimated 250 to 300 layouts in VUDA limits needed to be regularised. If there were any layouts with less than the mandated road width, VUDA staff would inspect and change the pattern. However, plot owners need to part with land for the purpose. If buildings had already been constructed in them, owners should apply for BPS as well as LRS.
Mr. Anandbabu said wide publicity would be given to the two schemes for which applications should be made by February 28. Registered plot owners should apply under LRS. The fee paid by them would be transferred to the local bodies concerned for provision of basic amenities like roads, drainage, etc. Wide publicity would be given by distributing pamphlets and other means. Vizianagaram which had 60 villages wanted some staff to be deployed. VUDA has appointed officers for eight zones in charge for LRS/BPS.
In case of failure to regularise under the scheme, such layouts/plots would be treated as continuing offence and penalty as per amended municipal laws will be levied; no regular water supply connection and services like drainage will be provided; no transactions will be allowed and no building permission given.
