The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has identified nearly 50 open spaces in Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills that can be developed into parks and playgrounds. The GHMC commissioner, Dr C.V.S.K. Sarma, on Saturday inspected these open spaces owned by the corporation and ordered construction of compound walls to prevent encroachments.
Engineering, urban forestry and horticulture officials were asked to take up development of parks in these open spaces on priority basis, after consulting the residents. Dr Sarma also inspected the flyover construction works at Nagarjuna circle, Punjagutta, and visited major parks like Sri Jalagam Vengal Rao, Lotus Pond and Rock Garden. At Ficus Garden, which is under development in 3 acres land in Jubilee Hills, the commissioner instructed the director of urban forestry to develop water fountains and waterfalls to attract children and elders.
Dr Sarma also instructed officials to take the help of expert hydrologists to locate ground water to develop parks. Noticing debris in the MLAs Colony park, the commissioner instructed the deputy municipal commissioner to take action against the officials concerned and submit compliance report. The commissioner also inspected various ongoing works in Yousufguda and Borabanda .
