Work on Hyderabad Metro Rail Project to begin in May

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and Span-Semalay, the two technical expert committees which evaluated the technical bids of all the five pre-quantified consortia for taking up the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project have found them in order and declared all of them as eligible to participate in the financial bids.
The prestigious metro rail project will be built with Public Private Partnership (PPP), which is first of its kind to be taken up in the world.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, HMR Managing Director NVS Reddy said that financial bids will be invited from all the five consortia by this month-end. A two-month time will be given to them to submit their financial bids.
The PPP developer will be finalised in the first week of April and works are expected to begin in May this year. The bidders have to keep the prescribed technical specifications, performance criteria and safety standards in mind and quote their financial bids.
The consortium that seeks the least financial support from the Government would bag the prestigious project. Planning Commission is finalising the Concession Agreement, he said.
The Planning Commission, Ministry for Urban Development and Finance are guiding the project authorities to ensure that it becomes a model for other Indian cities.
The Manual of Specifications and Standards (MSS) for the metro system which will be the technical part of the Concession Agreement prepared by the HMR for the first time in the country to reflect all the required technical specifications, performance criteria, technology and safety standards.
After detailed deliberations, all the technology related issued and safety standards are put into final shape at the all-India level meeting held here on Tuesday.
Detailed specifications of the elevated guide way, track structure, curvatures and gradients, coach design and interior seating arrangements, door closure mechanism, braking systems, noise limits, electric traction, station designs and passenger facilities, automatic signalling and train control systems etc were finalised, he added.
