10 things you can expect in 2008

As the New Year dawns, these 10 ambitious projects of the state government give people hope for a better year ahead. Digital meters: Autorickshaws will run with new digital meters from February 1. So far, digital meters have been installed in 20,000 autos in the city.
Daily water supply: The government is planning to supply drinking water daily to the city from January. It is also creating similar infrastructure for the city outskirts. Reliance Gas: Households in many parts of the state will get cooking gas for Rs 200 from the later part of the year after the east-west pipeline project of Reliance Gas Transportation Infrastructure Limited starts operations.
Internet Protocol Television: BSNL is working hard to give at least 1,000 IPTV connections in Hyderabad this year. It will bundle television, Internet and telephone. IIT, BITS: First-year classes will begin from July 2008 at the Ordnance Factory at Eddumailaram in Medak district. The Hyderabad campus of BITS Pilani will become operational from this year.
New constituencies: As part of the delimitation, 77 Assembly constituencies in the state will be redrawn or their status will be changed. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport: The ultramodern airport at Shamsabad will be inaugurated on March 16. It has been designed to cater to 12 million passengers annually.
P.V. Narasimha Rao Elevated Expressway: Hyderabad Urban Development Authority is aiming to complete the project by September. It will provide fast connectivity to the new airport. Flyovers: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will open the Greenlands and Punjagutta flyovers to the public in March.
Outer Ring Road: The first phase of ORR between Gachibowli junction and Shamshabad will be ready by mid-year. It will have an eight-lane carriage way designed for speeds of up to 120 kmph.
