No more reduction in road width: SCB

The road widening project of Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) seems to be getting narrower by the day as the board is under pressure from the residents whose properties are to be affected. The SCB has twice reduced the proposed width of roads.

Experts from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) conducted a full-fledged study and recommended widening of eight roads, each up to 100 feet. However, the officials reduced the proposed width to 80 feet once, and again scaled it down to 70 feet to bring down the number of properties to be affected. Encouraged by the board’s favourable attitude, the residents are now demanding that the road-widening project be shelved. Interestingly, the residents have the support of elected representatives.

However, the board officials are in no mood to concede to the public demand. The roads proposed to be widened are Mahendra Hills to Bison Gate, Sikh Village, Secunderabad Club to Safilguda and Bapujinagar to Hasmathpet, Tadbun to Mastan Cafe, Karkhana police station to Diamond Point, Tadbun to Bapujinagar and Trimulgherry to RK Puram flyover. It is proposed that Huda will take up widening of some of the roads.
