Seventy acres of land has been identified at Yendada in the city for the Rajiv Swagruha housing programme for the middle class, Minister for Commercial Taxes Konthala Ramakrishna has said.

In two months, land would be made available for the scheme for about 12,000 flats. At Bhimili too, apartments would be constructed and search was on for site at Anakapalle.
The Minister said under the Rajiv Gruhakalpa, 13,000 applications were received and so far 4,200 units constructed. For the remaining, site was handed over to the housing corporation and ‘willingness’ (from beneficiaries) sought as the cost had gone up.
Tenders would be called soon. Housing Minister Botsa Satyanarayana said all over the State 1.2 lakh applications were received for ‘Swagruha’ and they would be constructed in three years. By 2009, 45,000 houses would be completed. Tenders had already been called for 11,900 houses at six places, including Hyderabad, Vetlapalem, Anantapur and Nellore.
Irregularities
Referring to irregularities in the ‘Indiramma’ programme, he said so far 63 employees were suspended, eight arrested on criminal charges, four dismissed and disciplinary action pending against 120. He asserted that none would be spared and all newspaper reports were being scanned.
