Conceding a long-pending request, the State government has offered to take up with the High Court and revenue authorities the issue of allotting land in the vicinity of courts for construction of houses for public prosecutors.
It has also promised to consider the demand for appointment of cadre prosecutors instead of tenure prosecutors. “We have already decided not to de-cadre the posts. But, we will have to oblige in some cases,” Law Minister R. Chenga Reddy has said.
Clerical assistance
Inaugurating the general body meeting of the Association of Public Prosecutors (Cadre) here on Saturday, he said his department would bring to the Chief Minister’s notice the issue of providing clerical assistance to public prosecutors.
The government would seriously consider the demand for providing laptops/computers for prosecutors as and when the finances improved. Exhorting them to improve their efficiency , he said their effective functioning had a direct bearing on the criminal justice system as a whole.
On the demand against appointment of special prosecutors, he said the cadre public prosecutors should improve their efficiency that alone would keep people away from demanding their replacement. Law Secretary T. Madan Mohan Reddy, Association president J. Prasangi and others spoke.
