Centre clears sewerage plan for IT corridor

The Centre on Thursday cleared Rs 200.38-crore project to lay sewer lines in Serilingampally municipal circle which encompasses the information technology hub. Right now, there is no underground drainage system for Hi-Tech city, Gachibowli, Madhapur and other parts of Serilingampally municipality and people use septic tanks. The project covers seven catchments including Miyapur and BHEL, Beverly Hills (in Madhapur), Gachibowli, Kondapur, Gopanpalli, Nanakramguda and Durgam Cheruvu totalling 96.99 sq km.
The project involves laying trunk sewer mains of 350 to 1,200 mm diameter over 27.40 km, sub-mains of 250 to 300 mm diameter over 19 km, laterals of 150/200 mm diameter over 335.80 km. Six sewerage treatment plants of 57 million litres capacity and procurement of sewer cleaning equipment are other major components. Water Board managing director, Mr K.S. Jawahar Reddy, said the central sanctioning monitoring committee (CSMC) of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission had cleared the detailed project report on Thursday.
“Tenders will be invited and work taken up in three months. The project is proposed to be implemented in three years,” Mr Reddy said. Local bodies would pay Rs 100.193 crore (50 per cent of the project cost), JNNURM Rs 70.135 crore (35 per cent) and the the state government Rs 30 crore (15 per cent), Mr Reddy said. The project will help prevent diseases caused by poor hygiene in semi-urban slums in the vicinity of the IT corridor, prevention of pollution of water bodies and ground water.
