The state government’s decision to regularise unauthorised constructions may have brought cheer to building owners but it is likely to have a devastating effect on the planned growth of the city. The surrounding municipalities will be hit hard as it will guarantee that they remain without basic amenities such as drainage and proper roads.
The core city has grown haphazardly part and the government’s order will exacerbate the infrastructure woes in the surrounding areas. Hyderabad Urban Development Authority has so far identified around 400 unauthorised layouts in Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, Medak and Mahabubnagar districts. These layouts have no proper drainage, road network or electricity.
Huda will be forced to grant permits to the property owners as per the new rules approved by state Cabinet on Saturday. “Regularisation will be a bane for the city. It will hamper systematic development even in the outskirts,” said a senior official. “Even now, the government can insist on creation of basic amenities,” he added.
