In all splendour: The historic Chowmohalla Palace .
Want your party to be remembered long after the guests have left. Then entertain them at a location simply out of the world. How about a place steeped in history and heritage? Boy, that’s great! But where on earth is such a place? You wouldn’t have to look far. It is right in the heart of old city. Chowmahalla to be precise.
Throw a party at the very place where the Nizams entertained royal visitors and important dignitaries. Once the seat of Asaf Jahi dynasty, the bewitching palace is now available for lesser mortals to have a bash. Of late, the timeless corridors, whispering fountains and fairy tale courtyards of Chowmahalla are playing host to celebrity banquets.
My party, my palace. That’s it. The gates of the ‘shahi mahal’ are open - not for all and sundry but for a select few. The lush green lawns of the palace are being used for private functions of celebrities, particularly for corporate dinners. No, marriages are strictly out. The palace authorities do not want the spick and span precincts to be spoiled. “On an average, three to four parties are being held here every month”, says G. Kishan Rao, Director, Chowmahalla Palace.
Its pristine glory back, the renovated Chowmahalla promises an unforgettable experience. The build-up gets exciting even as one steps in. Little girls in traditional Hyderabadi costume greet one and that sets the tone for the evening.
Elegant and graceful ‘buggies’ which once carried the Nizam and his consorts, are waiting to take you on a joy ride. Yonder the ‘naubat’ plays on – taking one down the memory lane.
The grand Khilwat illuminated with the Belgian chandeliers serves as the backdrop for the party. In front of it is laid out the delectable spread on chowkis. Soups and shorbas, bread and rice, salads and curries, chutneys and curds and of course the irresistible spicy biryani.
