Diwali Shopping Fever In Twin Cities

With hardly a week left for Diwali, the festival shopping has reached frenzied heights in the twin cities. And the shopping crowd seems to have swelled this year, if the rush at almost all the shopping areas across the city is any indication. As usual, the shops are competing with one another in coming up with attractive offers to woo the customers.
Diwali this year is likely to be an exciting affair for more than one reason. Many are excited at the fact that the festival is coming just one day before the second Saturday, which means extended celebrations and ample time to relax after the festival.
Says G Anuradha, a student of St Ann’s College for Women, “The government declaring a holiday on Friday is something sweet as it is usually very tough to get back into a studious mood immediately after a festival like Diwali.” Her classmates have planned to utilise the holiday for a short tour, she adds.
Swanky malls and gulli shops alike are witnessing a huge influx of shoppers. Says Gulzar Khan, owner of Mumtaj Fashions at Sultan Bazaar in Koti, “The business has been tremendous in the last few days and we expect it to increase further in the next two or three days as it is salary time.”
The range of items too has got some freshness. New arrivals in the categories like diyas, dresses, sweets and gifts are adding to the joy of customers. “I am thrilled to see a lot of new designs in dress materials. Especially the computer designs in kurta churidaar are refreshing and tempting too,” says K Swarnalatha, an Inter student from Tarnaka before getting back to her shopping spree.
Not just the dresses, but the sales of home appliances, mobiles and household items too have picked up. “There is a 30 per cent rise in the sale of home appliances this season compared with the corresponding period last year,” said an official of one of the leading home appliances store in the city. Are you joining the fray? If you have not already done your shopping, of course.
Shopping malls, brands and retail outlets have come up with offers like discounts, assured gifts, draws and cash back schemes too. Here’s a sample list.
