The ATDC Hotels Brand ‘Punnami’ Changes To ‘Haritha’

Loading ...Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy has ordered that the name of the hotels run by the AP Tourism Development Corporation be changed from ‘Punnami’ to ‘Haritha’, reportedly because the former is a synonym of Chandra, the moon.
Some of his aides had apparently told Dr Reddy that APTDC officials had named the hotels ‘Punnami’ to curry favour with Mr Chandrababu Naidu when he was Chief Minister. Punnami means Purnima or full moon. And people often use the word ‘Chandrudu’ for the full moon.
Officials were trying to please Mr Chandrababu Naidu, though in a roundabout manner. Whether this is true or not, the hotels are being renamed as ‘Haritha,’ meaning greenery, which is a favourite word of the present chief minister. However, the name change comes with a huge price tag. Sources said that APTDC would have to spend at least Rs 1 crore to replace all sign boards and other paraphernalia of the hotels.
The job has already begun and the Punnami Restaurant at Tank Bund and has become Haritha Restaurant. APTDC has a chain of Punnami hotels and resorts in 27 locations across the State including Hyderabad, Vizag, Amaravati, Araku Valley, Basar, Horsley Hills, Keesaragutta, Kuppam, Kurnool, Mahanandi, Nagarjuna Sagar, and Srisailam. ” The chief minister did not like the name Punnami and wanted it to be changed into Haritha,” said an official.
