HUDA Lands In Legal Wrangles

Nearly 1,500 acres of land belonging to Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (Huda) is caught in legal wrangles with several private parties and organisations claiming their ownership. Because of the legal problems, Huda has either postponed taking up some projects on such land or has withdrawn proposed projects.
Huda owns about 5,000 acres of land both in Ranga Reddy and Medak districts. Some of the land has been developed for various projects and other has been auctioned as plots. The land was given to Huda by the state government.
There are about 220 cases pending against the Huda land in various courts in Ranga Reddy, Medak and High Court.
“We are pursuing regularly the cases with our legal cell and standing committees. Huda is filing affidavits and other documents without any delay,” Huda estate officer S Srinivasa Reddy said.
Nearly 600 acres of land is caught in legal wrangles at Jawaharnagar alone where Huda has proposed townships and IT parks with some ex-servicemen approaching court claiming its ownership. According to Huda officials, the state government had acquired the land for ex-servicemen decades ago but took them back them in 1952 as they violated certain conditions.
In another case, a major chunk of 445 acres of land in survey nos 100 and 100 at Miyapur is being claimed by individuals and a housing society. Huda wants to hand over this land for construction of a depot for the metro rail project if the case is decided in its favour. The urban development authority proposed to auction 198 acres of evacuee property at Puppalguda for housing and commercial purposes. But the auction could not take place as some individuals went to court claiming ownership.
About 71 acres in survey no 71 at Sahebnagar Kalan in Hayatnagar mandal is entangled in legal litigations following ownership claims made by Wakf Board and muttawalis. Huda laid roads and constructed water tanks. But its proposal to auction the land for housing purpose came to naught when the Wakf Board and muttawalis moved court. A similar fate befell 12.32 acres of land located in survey nos 42 and 50 at Bommarkudowlah in Rajendanagar mandal.
Last year, Huda auctioned about 100 acres of 135 acres in various survey nos in Kokapet. As some individuals went to court, Huda decided to return the money to the buyers.
Six acres in Izzatnagar near Hitec City, five acres in Bowenpally and another five acres in Huda heights (Huda is not a party in this case as a case has been filed against the government) are in legal wrangles apart from other lands in Ranga Reddy and Medak districts.
